CatRock: Forming Lifelong Bonds and Forever Friendships

Date: TBD

For Alumni Gaby J, CatRock holds a very special place in her heart. Now a junior in college, Gaby will never forget the programs that have pushed her to grow outside of her comfort zone, teaching her to be a skilled, interpersonal communicator, all while building deep connections and providing her with a second family.

Gaby is forever grateful for the new perspectives that CatRock has enriched her life with. “Being born and raised in the Bronx to a middle-class family, CatRock makes you think that can do anything. In the Bronx you’re used to seeing the same things, but instead of being in the streets, CatRock takes you to the outdoors and teaches you what is more in life. You get to see another whole side of the world”.

Catrock’s culture fosters generosity and compassion, creating an atmosphere which inspires students to want to return as alumnus. “As an Alum you don't think that you're giving back. You're doing it out of kindness. No one is making you do it. Being able to help other students is amazing because I was one of them a couple of years ago".

Gaby also especially appreciates CatRock’s inclusive, diverse and welcoming culture. “CatRock is an open-arms organization. They help anybody as much as they can and everyone is seen as the same thing. We don’t put anyone down because every person has something to say”.

CatRock’s programs not only cultivate a welcoming environment, but it also gives rise to continuing relationships. “If you go to the center right now, and you haven't seen them for over five years, they're always there to open the door, have a nice conversation, see how you're doing, and what they can do to help”. Her junior year of college, Gaby witnessed firsthand Catrock’s culture of openness and generosity. She was going through a difficult time and her family did not have the means to financially support her remaining two years of studies. When Gaby mentioned her concerns to Craig, CatRock’s co-founder, he was quick to recognize her unyielding perseverance and contentiousness by offering her a scholarship.

Having overcome adversity, Gaby is unconditionally thankful. “CatRock has done so much for me and my family. They have changed my life and I feel so beyond grateful for them”. Gaby’s experiences define the CatRock spirit and underpins what the organization is all about.
